Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi – Welcome to Kenya!
Your Kenyan adventure begins as you arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, the vibrant capital city of Kenya. Upon disembarking, you'll be greeted by our friendly tour representative or driver-guide, who will assist with your luggage and provide a warm welcome to East Africa. From the airport, you'll be transferred to your hotel, passing through Nairobi's bustling streets lined with jacaranda trees, vibrant local markets and the city's ever-evolving skyline — a blend of colonial architecture and modern glass towers.
Depending on your arrival time, you may have the opportunity to explore a few of Nairobi’s charming and scenic highlights. You could visit the Giraffe Centre in the leafy suburb of Karen, where you can get up close and even hand-feed the endangered Rothschild giraffes from a raised platform , a truly unforgettable experience for animal lovers and photographers alike. For a bit of shopping and culture, the Kazuri Beads Centre offers a chance to see women artisans handcrafting beautiful ceramic jewelry, while learning about a social enterprise that empowers local communities.
If you're looking for panoramic views and a taste of the local scene, consider heading to a rooftop café or lounge for a sunset drink overlooking the cityscape. Alternatively, enjoy a relaxed evening at your hotel, soaking in the serene garden surroundings or enjoying a quiet dinner. For something more lively, you may opt to dine at the world-famous Carnivore Restaurant, known for its unique barbecue experience and warm Kenyan hospitality.
As night falls, settle into your comfortable mid-range Nairobi hotel — such as La Mada, West Wood, Eastland Hotel or Raha Hotel Hotel— and rest up for the exciting safari adventures that lie ahead.
Overnight: Nairobi
Meal Plan: Dinner
After a restful night in Nairobi and a hearty breakfast at your hotel, your safari officially begins as you depart for Amboseli National Park, one of Kenya’s most iconic wildlife destinations. The journey takes approximately 4.5 to 5 hours, and as the driver drives south, the urban energy of Nairobi gradually gives way to the scenic countryside — rolling hills, open savannah, acacia woodlands and distant silhouettes of the Chyulu Hills on the horizon. Along the way, you’ll pass traditional Maasai villages, colorful roadside markets and glimpses of rural life, offering an authentic view of Kenya beyond the cities.
As you approach Amboseli, keep your eyes on the horizon, weather permitting, you may catch your first breathtaking view of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s tallest mountain, towering majestically just across the border in Tanzania. The flat plains of Amboseli stretch endlessly, creating a dramatic contrast to the snow-capped peak.
Upon arrival at your mid-range lodge or tented camp — such as Kibo Safari Camp, Sentrim Amboseli, or AA Lodge — you’ll be welcomed with a refreshing drink and a hot lunch, followed by time to relax and settle into your room or luxury tent. In the late afternoon, you’ll head out for your first game drive inside the park. Amboseli is world-renowned for its large herds of free-roaming elephants, many with impressively long tusks, often seen bathing or crossing the marshes in family groups. The park is also home to lions, cheetahs, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, hyenas and an impressive variety of birdlife.
As the sun begins to set, the park transforms into a golden wonderland, offering perfect light for photography — especially with elephants silhouetted against Kilimanjaro’s iconic summit, a moment that defines the Amboseli experience.
You’ll return to your lodge or camp in the early evening to freshen up, enjoy a delicious dinner, and relax by the fire or under the stars, surrounded by the sounds of the African wilderness.
Overnight: Amboseli National Park
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Wake up to the crisp morning air of the African savannah and the distant calls of birds and wildlife echoing through the bush. After an early breakfast at your lodge or camp, set out for a morning game drive in Amboseli National Park, one of the best times of day to spot wildlife before the sun grows too hot. The soft morning light and clear skies often provide breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro, making this the perfect time for photography.
Amboseli’s wide, open plains make animal sightings easier and more intimate. You’ll likely encounter herds of elephants moving gracefully through the grasslands or bathing in the marshes, often led by large matriarchs. The park also offers excellent chances to spot buffaloes, wildebeests, zebras, giraffes, warthogs and predators such as lions, hyenas, jackals and even cheetahs with a bit of luck. Birdwatchers will be delighted by flamingos, herons and birds of prey soaring overhead.
After a few hours of thrilling game viewing, you’ll return to your lodge for lunch and a bit of relaxation. Take time to unwind by the pool, enjoy the peaceful views of the surrounding landscape, or simply listen to the sounds of nature from the comfort of your room or tent.
In the late afternoon, you’ll head out for another game drive, exploring different parts of the park and seeking out animals you may have missed earlier. The cooler temperatures often bring wildlife out of hiding, increasing your chances of encountering elusive species. As the sun begins to dip behind the mountains, the sky glows in warm shades of orange and gold — a stunning end to a full day of adventure.
If you’re interested in cultural experiences, you can also choose to visit a nearby Maasai village (optional activity). Here, you’ll have the chance to meet the Maasai people, learn about their traditions and way of life, see traditional dances and even step inside a manyatta (a traditional Maasai home).
Return to your lodge in the evening for dinner, followed by storytelling around the campfire or some quiet time under the star-filled African sky.
Overnight: Amboseli National Park
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Your final morning in Amboseli begins with an optional early morning game drive, perfect for catching wildlife at its most active and enjoying the golden sunrise over the plains. The cooler hours offer a peaceful and magical atmosphere as animals begin their day — elephants moving through the mist, gazelles grazing in the open, and perhaps a final glimpse of a lion returning from a night hunt. If skies are clear, this may be your best chance to capture that postcard-perfect photo of Mount Kilimanjaro, unobstructed and glowing in the morning light.
After returning to your lodge or camp, enjoy a relaxed breakfast, followed by check-out. By mid-morning, you’ll begin the scenic drive back to Nairobi, a journey of approximately 4.5 to 5 hours. The route takes you through rural towns, open farmland and vibrant roadside markets, offering one last look at Kenya’s countryside landscapes and local life.
You’ll arrive in Nairobi in the afternoon and check in to your hotel. Depending on your energy levels and arrival time, the rest of the day is free for you to explore at your own pace. You may choose to rest at your hotel or venture out for optional visits to Nairobi’s top attractions — such as the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, where rescued baby elephants are cared for before being released back into the wild, or a quick stop at the Karen Blixen Museum, the former home of the famed author of Out of Africa.
If you're in the mood for shopping, head to a local Maasai market for handmade jewelry, beadwork and African fabrics. For dinner, you can opt for your hotel’s restaurant or try one of Nairobi’s excellent eateries offering local or international cuisine.
After a day that bridges the wild beauty of Amboseli and the modern energy of Nairobi, you’ll enjoy a comfortable night’s rest in preparation for your next destination.
Overnight: Nairobi
Meal Plan: Dinner, Lunch,Breakfast
After breakfast at your Nairobi hotel, it’s time to leave the capital behind and head northwest toward the stunning Lake Naivasha, nestled in the heart of the Great Rift Valley. The drive takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours, but you’ll want to pause at the Rift Valley Viewpoint en route. From this scenic overlook, marvel at the vast escarpment plunging into the valley below, dotted with shimmering lakes, volcanic formations and rolling hills , a photographer’s dream and a reminder of the continent’s dramatic geological past.
As you descend into the valley, you’ll pass local villages, flower farms, and roadside stalls selling fresh produce and handcrafted curios. By midday, you’ll arrive at your lodge on the shores of Lake Naivasha — a peaceful freshwater lake fringed with acacia trees and home to an abundance of birdlife and hippos. Recommended mid-range accommodations include Lake Naivasha Country Club, Naivasha Kongoni Lodge, or Naivasha Sopa Lodge — each offering serene surroundings and beautiful lakeside views.
After lunch and some time to relax, you’ll enjoy a leisurely boat ride on Lake Naivasha, gliding over calm waters while spotting hippos wallowing near the banks and watching fish eagles swoop overhead. The lake is a haven for over 400 species of birds, making it a paradise for birdwatchers and nature lovers alike.
As the sun sets over the water, casting a golden glow across the landscape, you’ll return to your lodge for a quiet evening. Enjoy dinner in the lodge restaurant, followed by time to unwind under the stars, perhaps with a drink by the fire or the sounds of nature in the background.
Overnight: Lake Naivasha

________________________________________
After breakfast at your lodge, prepare for one of the most unique safari experiences in Kenya: a day of adventure and exploration around Lake Naivasha. Today, you’ll visit Hell’s Gate National Park, a dramatic landscape of towering cliffs, ancient volcanic formations, and deep gorges — unlike any other park in Kenya. What makes it special is that you can explore it on foot or by bicycle, as it’s one of the few parks in Africa where big predators are absent, making walking and cycling safaris safe and incredibly thrilling.
You’ll cycle or walk along scenic trails with zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, gazelles, and even warthogs grazing nearby. Along the way, your guide will point out the towering Fischer’s Tower and Central Tower, remnants of volcanic activity, as well as birds of prey like vultures and Verreaux’s eagles circling above. If you're feeling adventurous, you can take a short hike through the Hell’s Gate Gorge, where narrow sandstone walls rise high on either side, carved over millennia by water and wind.
After your morning adventure, return to the lodge for lunch or enjoy a picnic inside the park, surrounded by nature. In the afternoon, you’ll head out on a boat ride to Crescent Island, a privately-owned sanctuary on Lake Naivasha. This island is special for allowing you to walk freely among wildlife — including giraffes, impalas, zebras, and waterbucks — in a completely open and natural setting, with no fences or vehicles. The peaceful scenery, dotted with fever trees and set against the lake’s calm waters, makes for a serene and memorable end to the day.
Return to your lodge by evening to unwind and enjoy dinner. You may want to gather around a campfire or sit on the terrace listening to the sounds of the lake — from hippos grunting in the distance to birds settling in for the night.
Overnight: Lake Naivasha
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
After a leisurely breakfast at your lodge, it’s time to say goodbye to the peaceful shores of Lake Naivasha and begin your return journey to Nairobi. The drive takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours, climbing back up the Great Rift Valley escarpment with sweeping views of the landscape below. Along the way, you may choose to stop at a local curio shop or craft market, perfect for picking up souvenirs such as hand-beaded jewelry, wooden carvings, and colorful fabrics among others.
Upon arrival in Nairobi by early afternoon, you’ll check back into your hotel and have the rest of the day at leisure or for optional sightseeing. Depending on your interests, you might visit the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (if not done earlier), where you can see orphaned baby elephants during their midday mud bath — an adorable and heartwarming experience. Another worthwhile stop is the Karen Blixen Museum, the former colonial home of the author of Out of Africa, set in a serene garden setting at the foot of the Ngong Hills.
For a taste of local culture, explore City Market, KICC rooftop or a Maasai craft market, where artisans sell everything from handmade sandals and fabrics to soapstone carvings. If you prefer a relaxed afternoon, you can simply enjoy the amenities at your hotel — perhaps a spa treatment, a swim or coffee at a rooftop terrace overlooking the city.
In the evening, consider celebrating your last night in Kenya with a special dinner. You could return to the iconic Carnivore Restaurant, or opt for a more upscale experience at one of Nairobi’s fine dining venues serving Kenyan fusion or even international cuisine.
As your journey begins to wind down, take a moment to reflect on the incredible landscapes, wildlife and cultural encounters that have defined your trip — from the elephant herds of Amboseli to the tranquil waters of Naivasha and the vibrant spirit of Nairobi.

Depending on your flight schedule, you may choose to fit in one last activity or cultural stop before heading to the airport.
If your flight is later in the day, you could opt for a morning visit to Nairobi National Park — the only wildlife park in the world located within a capital city. Here, you may spot rhinos, lions, giraffes and more, all with the city skyline in the distance — a remarkable sight that blends urban and wild in true Kenyan fashion. Alternatively, you can enjoy a calm morning with a cup of Kenyan coffee at your hotel or browse a local gift shop or craft center for last-minute souvenirs.
